Below are a some frequently asked questions related to using the maps Moving :: Zooming :: Entry Icons :: Selecting :: Misc Notes :: Further Help
There are 3 basic ways to move around: 2) Use the arrows on the top right of the map which move it approximately 1/3 of a map width/height per click. 3) Click and drag the little blue square in the bottom right of the map. The square shows the area of the map in relation to the larger area and allows bigger movements. Moving hints: • If you want to centre the map on a particular place (especially before zooming), double click on that location and it will move to be the centre. Back to menu 1) To zoom by one level at a time, use the + and - buttons located at the top and bottom of the zoom bar on the left of the map (appears very much like a ladder). 2) To zoom a large way in or out at a time, click on the zoom bar. Please note, each zoom can take a few seconds to redraw the map, usually indicated by the "Replotting map..." or similar message in the top right. Zoom hints: • If a large number of icons appears clustered, zooming in will separate them. • If you find the map is moving away from where
you want to zoom in to, try double On the map, you are likely to see white icons which donate points which the map creator has plotted, and sometimes coloured icons depending on the map settings. White icons are places that the map creator has plotted and often relate to the page from which the map was linked. Other coloured icons donate various other types of information which can be automatically plotted. White icons may be clickable and if so they will bring up a speech bubble with more information such as a name, description and possibly a link to further information. This is optional and will not always apply. Coloured icons will always be clickable. To close a speech bubble, just click on the X in the top right corner.
Sometimes there is a lot of information displayed on the map and it might be useful to remove certain icons which are not of interest. If coloured icons are shown, generally there will be a grid of icons below the map both showing what each icon represents and allowing you to de-select the icon from the map. It is possible that this grid has been hidden by the map creator to make the page neater, or if no coloured icons are plotted then it again won't appear. • If coloured icons are shown on the map, these will be the top usually 30 points for that type of content within the area of the visible map. As you zoom in you might find these change and more points are plotted. • If you want a better overview of an area, the "satellite" button can be useful. This provides an ariel view of the map area, or the "hybrid" button provides satellite images with the roads laid on top. In some areas you may find the images are rather blured, in which case just zoom out for better quality. • Printing of the maps is allowed under Google Terms & Conditions, but only for non-commercial purposes. Printing quality and ability depends on numerous factors which are outside the control of AardvarkMap.net, Google or the map creator. • The inset map (bottom right) can be removed by clicking on the downward arrow in the very bottom right of the map. It can then be recovered by clicking the upward arrow.
